Rice coal, like fine coal, is run-of-mine coal brought to a particle size of 0.5-10 mm. Of its use, 70% is by factories for steam production, 20% by poultry farms, and 10% for residential heating. Rice coal is washed in a washing plant to remove impurities such as clay, soil, and rock, and it is enriched; depending on demand, it is also dried to achieve a high calorific value. Some factories choose only washed rice coal because they get higher efficiency from it. Industrial users generally burn this coal in stoker-fired boilers.
